Speaking

Sessions built on practice.

Sessions and advisory for clinicians and leaders who want to know what AI can do — and what still requires judgement.

Selected topics

  1. Building practical AI for allied health

What actually works when AI meets clinical workflows — where it saves time, where it fails, and how to evaluate tools without the hype.

  2. Responsible AI in clinical practice

Documentation, accountability and judgement: using AI while protecting professional standards and the therapeutic relationship.

  3. Change management in digital health

Why digital health projects stall in clinics and health organisations — and the strategy, design and change practices that get technology adopted. Grounded in teaching the discipline at postgraduate level.

  4. What the next allied health clinic looks like

How systems, staffing and economics change as practical technology reaches private practice — and what owners should do now.

  5. From physiotherapist to software engineer

Learning to build software after two decades of clinical work — what it cost, what it changed, and what clinicians bring to technology teams.

  6. Why domain experts should build healthcare technology

The case for clinician-founders: products built from lived clinical friction beat products built from assumptions.

  7. Build your own clinic tools

Hands-on workshops for practitioners, owners and practice managers: build working tools for your own clinic with vibe coding and no-code platforms — no engineering background required.

Digital health and AI strategy

For professional bodies and healthcare organisations: education programs, AI governance and the workflow realities behind the policy questions.

Product advisory for health-tech founders

Long — about 200 words

Barry Nguyen is a physiotherapist, software engineer and the founder of CliniScribe, practical AI workflow software for allied health.

A University of Melbourne physiotherapy graduate, he spent more than two decades treating patients before learning to write software — not to leave physiotherapy, but to build the systems he wished clinicians had. He still practises through his Melbourne clinics, Acland Street Physiotherapy and Melbourne Running Clinic, which keep his product and business thinking answerable to real patients and real teams. Before CliniScribe, he co-founded HealthAide, a digital health platform that served more than 340,000 patients.

CliniScribe grew out of the administrative friction Barry experienced as a clinician and clinic owner. He pitched it as a finalist at the Australian Physiotherapy Association's IGNITE Pitchfest in 2023, and the company joined the Melbourne Accelerator Program's 2025 cohort. Bootstrapped and profitable, CliniScribe is in daily use across Australian clinics and integrates with Cliniko and Nookal.

Barry hosts The Business of Allied Health, a podcast about the commercial realities of running clinics. He writes on AI, accountability and clinical practice for the APA, has taught postgraduate digital health at RMIT Online since 2021, and teaches AI workshops for clinicians, including the FOCUS26 pre-conference workshop and education for ESSA. His advisory work spans nearly a decade: Innovation Advisor to the APA from 2017, co-author of its first Practice Management Software Insight report in 2018, adviser to the Australian Digital Health Agency from 2022 to 2025, and now a member of the APA's inaugural AI Advisory Group. In 2020 he was named one of the 40 Under 40 Most Influential Asian-Australians.

He speaks on practical AI in allied health, responsible AI in clinical practice, and why domain experts should build healthcare technology.
