About the show

The Business of Allied Health is an Australian podcast about the business side of running an allied health clinic. Host Barry Nguyen — a physiotherapist, clinic owner and founder of CliniScribe — sits down with practice owners, founders and industry leaders for honest, unscripted conversations about what it actually takes to build a clinic that lasts.

Episodes cover the decisions every owner faces: recruiting and keeping clinicians, pricing and funding from private fees to the NDIS and DVA, referrals and marketing, multi-site growth, practice software and AI, and when and how to sell. Guests range from first-time owners to founders who built and exited national groups.

It is made for physiotherapists, podiatrists, occupational therapists, exercise physiologists, chiropractors and other allied health professionals who own a practice, manage one, or are thinking about opening their own.

The practice that runs without you

with Paul Wright

In Episode 30 of The Business of Allied Health, host Barry sits down with legendary allied health business coach, physiotherapist, and author Paul Wright (creator of Practiceology™ and author of How to Run A One-Minute Practice). Paul shares his hilarious and candid journey into private practice—including why he describes himself as a "hopeless employee" who once got sacked from a public hospital job—and how he transitioned into building highly profitable, turn-key health businesses that run without the owner. They dive deep into the evolution of allied health business education, why traditional accountant P&L data often fails clinic owners, how to escape the clinical grind, and why building robust systems and retention frameworks is the true key to freedom.
